Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to Year 2! We are very excited to be starting a new academic year with your children and we have really enjoyed getting to know them so far.

 

This term, we will be answering the key question, “Are we all different?”. We will be exploring this question through a range of subjects displayed in the table below. We will be learning about the continent of Africa. We will explore different art, animals and stories all around this.

 

Key information for Year 2 

PE lessons will take place on Wednesdays and Fridays this half term. Our days sometimes change so please ensure your child has a PE kit in school at all times. PE lessons will be both inside and outside, so please ensure your child has the correct kit in school from the start of term, including a suitable pair of trainers. 

Home Learning will be set on Tuesdays each week and will focus primarily on Maths, spellings and reading.

 

Reading 

All children will be taking home a reading book, which has been chosen specifically to suit their ability.  Please remember to read the same book a few times throughout the week to build confidence and fluency. Please read a range of books for pleasure, at home as well. Please encourage your child to read as regularly as possible, as it is an essential skill to continually develop. Please remember to record any reading in the reading records to help the children earn reading stars and house points! 

 

School Rules

Our school rules remain as Ready, Respectful and Safe. We have high expectations of every child in the class and will use house points, Golden Book certificates, class marble jar rewards and lots of praise to celebrate the children demonstrating these high expectations.
