Year 5 - Beech Tree Class

Welcome to Beech Tree Class,

Dear Parents

In Year 5, our English learning is inspired by texts such as Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo and Nelson Mandela’s The Long Walk to Freedom. We explore regions from Romsey to Egypt through History and Geography.

In Science, we will investigate how materials can change. We will also spend time learning about space, which leads us on to our learning about forces. In PSHE lessons, we will explore our dreams and goals, considering how to achieve these. In RE, we will be exploring Islam, with a focus on the significance of the Qur’an and the symbolism of water within the Islamic faith.

Along with our residential at Romsey Abbey, we are excited to visit Southampton Art Gallery to create wire sculptures and learn more about rivers at Tadburn Meadow in the Summer term.

Please encourage your child to read daily as this is an essential skill to develop. Read with an adult regularly (at least three times a week) and record this in your reading diary. Knowing what the book is about is just as important as being able to read and understand the language.

I look forward to an exciting year ahead!
