Year 4 - Holly Tree Class

Welcome to Holly Tree Class,

Welcome back Holly Tree Class!

What an excellent start to Summer term, I cannot wait to see what we are going to achieve.

  • This term, as a class we are having a big push on handwriting and spellings. We are working together to become masters at these.

  • With our times tables check in June, we are working on becoming times tables masters in Yr4! Keep up the good work.

  • We have made a start on our English learning journey with ‘How to Live Forever’ by Neil Gaiman, and we are working towards writing and publishing a series of short stories, all meeting the quest narrative criteria. After this we are turning our focus to Global warming, looking at some picture based books to help us explore this theme and write some persuasive texts. After half term we will reading the book “Journey to the River Sea” by Eva Ibottson. This book will take us on a Journey through the Amazon Rainforest. The book will inspire us to write letters and narratives all about the rainforest.

  • In Maths this term we have already started to tackle fractions before we move on to symmetry, reflecting shapes and lines successfully to create patterns and time. After half term we will be moving on to division, learning how to manipulate relationships around division and successfully and efficiently solve a range of problems.

  • This term we have already started looking at alarm systems in DT, Living things in Science, Trade in Geography and the Pentecost in RE before moving on to ‘All things Jungle’ after half term. After our trip to the Living Rainforest in Newbury setting the tone for Summer 2, we are looking forward to exploring the rainforest in Art, English and Geography.

Please continue reading with your children and supporting them with their home learning on Google Classroom, including their times tables.

Many thanks for your continued support, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me by email or phone call and I will be happy to help.

Miss Osmond
