EYFS - Holly Tree Class

Welcome to Holly Tree Class

Dear Parents of Holly Tree Class,

Welcome to the Summer term! I hope you all had a lovely Easter break and are ready for your child’s last term in their reception year. How quickly time flies!

As many of the children have shown an interest in sea creatures and marine life, our first focus of the term will be ‘Pirates and Under the Sea.’ I am very excited about all the learning opportunities this topic will enable us to explore! A topic map is displayed in the classroom and provides detailed information about what we will be learning and the links to the Early Years Curriculum. Please feel free to come and take a look and if you have something linked to the topic you may be able to offer please do let me know.

To support our learning, we shall be visiting the historic Portsmouth Dockyard on Wednesday 8thMay. Our visit will be centred around Percy Parrot’s Pirate Adventure when, through singing, object handling, sensory exploration and storytelling, the children will discover more about life at sea alongside Percy the Parrot. Please do let me know if you are available to come along on our adventure that day although unfortunately only pirates with current DBS checks will be allowed!

As we begin to prepare your children for Year One, we shall continue to work hard on developing their reading and writing skills and furthering their mathematical ability. Helping your child to read and write at home is always crucial and evidence recorded on Tapestry or brought into school enables my end of year judgements about each child’s achievement in the 17 Early Learning Goals in the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum to be supported. If you would like information regarding what achieving these Early Learning Goal entails then please do not hesitate to ask.

Finally a reminder that our whole school Sports Day is on Friday 17th May. Details about this day will be sent out nearer the time but your support on this day is always appreciated.

What a busy and exciting term! I am really looking forward to working with all your children as they complete their learning journey in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Many thanks,

Miss Jo Hobbs
